Little spanish cafe

After a few months of renovations and moving, C and I finally settled in. Yesterday was the first normal weekend where we could enjoy the rare sunny days of Amsterdam. It started with a lazy morning. As you can imagine, by the time we had lunch it was 3.30 in the afternoon.

In the spirit of exploring our new neighborhood, we went onto Amstelveenseweg. I always thought it was funny that the road leading to Amstelveen is called Amstelveenseweg and the road coming from Amstelveen to Amsterdam to called Amsterdamseweg. At some point they meet. But who got to decide where this meeting point is?

Anyway the beginning of Amstelveenseweg (where the end of Vondelpark is) is littered with restaurants and cafes. We spotted a cafe with a terrace called Super Mercado and decided to plonk ourselves there.

The menu sounded vague. Under salads there was fish salad, meat salad and under platters to share there is fish platter, meat platter and mixed platter. Get the picture? We inquired with our friendly server who explained that the fish salad was grilled squid and the meat platter was a mixed of cut meats. So we got one of each.

The squid salad, turned out to be really really soft. Usually grilled squids are a little tough and chewy but this squid was so tender it doesn't taste like squid. But there were only 4 pieces! The meat platter was also really tasty but nothing special to be honest.

Anyway the place has a very lazy sunday afternoon atmosphere. Perfect for a cup of coffee and a book or a place to have some snacks and catch up with old friends. Highly recommended.
